Membership of the XBRL Consortium is open to all organisations and companies of any size, from one-person consultancies to multi-national corporations or government agencies. Academics are also welcome and have a special category of membership.
Joining the XBRL consortium provides a range of business benefits. These centre on an early understanding of the opportunities which XBRL offers, support in implementing XBRL and the possibility of gaining a significant lead in introducing XBRL in products and services. The Benefits section gives more information about the advantages of membership.
Organisations qualify for membership in one of two ways, through a jurisdiction or through direct participation. If your organisation is based in a country that already has an XBRL jurisdiction, then you must join the jurisdiction to participate. If there is no jurisdiction in your home country, then you can apply to become a Direct Participant until a jurisdiction is formed.
Members in jurisdictions are required to pay the appropriate annual fees, which vary with size of organisation and jurisdiction. Direct Participants pay an annual fee directly to XBRL International. Your local Jurisdiction or XBRL International can provide information on membership fees. The XBRL Consortium is a non profit organisation and fees are used purely to finance essential XBRL development, education and marketing.
To register an interest in joining, without obligation, please fill in the appropriate form under Join XBRL. Alternatively, contact your local Jurisdiction or XBRL International for more information. If there is no jurisdiction listed where your organisation is based, select the Developing Jurisdictions heading. You will be contacted by an XBRL International representative and sent the Direct Participant membership information.
If you or your organisation is interested in creating a new Jurisdiction, please see the Forming a Jurisdiction section.
