Basel Committee appoints new Secretary General
Neil Esho was recently appointed the next Secretary General of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, a crucial role in shaping international banking supervisory standards. He has served as Deputy Secretary General since July 2014, and will take up his new mantle in February for an initial term of three years. Basel Committee Chair Pablo Hernández de Cos commented that his experience, including in supporting the development of standards such as the Basel III framework, places him “in an ideal position to lead the Secretariat in the next phase of the Committee’s work as it focuses on implementation as well as on new challenges around cryptocurrencies, climate-related financial risks and the accelerating digitalisation of finance.” That’s certainly plenty to be getting on with!
