Open Data Taking Hold in Deutschland
The German government has released an open data action plan that would codify the publication of administrative data with unified metadata descriptions, in machine readable formats and using open licenses as a basic principle. The plan calls for coordination at the Federal, State and local levels, and explores pan-European open data possibilities. Also on the table? The possible revenue and expenditures involved with selling data. The German plan is based on the G8 open data principles released last year at this time, which pushes for government data to be open by default, emphasizes quantity and quality, stresses availability in multiple formats, and encourages the use of open data for more responsible government and innovation.
