SEC proposals to enhance EDGAR access and management
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has proposed rule and form amendments aimed at enhancing access to and management of accounts on the SEC’s EDGAR system. These changes are part of the broader initiative known as ‘EDGAR Next,’ which aims to improve filer access and account management. The SEC is seeking public feedback on these proposed amendments, as well as technical changes related to EDGAR Next.
Starting from September 18, 2023, the SEC will provide a dedicated test environment called the ‘EDGAR Next Proposing Beta’ that reflects the proposed rule and form amendments and related technical changes. This beta environment will be open for testing until March 15, 2024 – and it’s open to all members of the public, without registration.
The public comment period for the proposed rule and form amendments will close 60 days after the SEC’s proposing release is published in the Federal Register. Filers are encouraged to submit comments. Additionally, the SEC welcomes technical feedback on the related technical changes throughout the testing period.
This proposal represents an important step in enhancing the functionality and user experience of the EDGAR system for filers and stakeholders in the financial industry.
