FERC releases draft 2025 taxonomies for comment

Posted on January 12, 2025 by Editor

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has published draft updates to its XBRL taxonomies, validation rules, and rendering files for public comment. These updates, slated for implementation as Version 2025-04-01, will support several key FERC forms, including Forms 1, 1-F, 2, 2-A, 3-Q electric, 3-Q natural gas, 6, 60, and 714. The draft materials are now available for download, with comments open until 3 March 2025.

FERC first initiated its reporting framework transition to XBRL in 2021, enabling more streamlined and transparent reporting processes. Since then, annual taxonomy updates have been a critical part of refining the system to meet evolving regulatory needs ensuring data accuracy and reliability across energy sector reporting requirements.

For those in the energy sector, this is an important opportunity to provide feedback on the draft materials. Stakeholders are encouraged to engage with the consultation to help shape the final version.

Explore the draft taxonomy and submit your comments by 3 March 2025 here.
