SEC launches EDGAR Next enrollment as filer transition begins

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced that filers can begin transitioning to EDGAR Next, the upgraded version of its Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval (EDGAR) system, starting 24 March.
A new EDGAR Filer Management dashboard will go live on that date, allowing users to enroll and submit access applications via Form ID.
EDGAR Next was introduced through rule and form amendments in September 2024 to enhance security, simplify access, and give filers greater control over their accounts. While enrolment will remain open until 19 December 2025, filers should complete the process by 12 September 2025 to avoid disruptions. To assist with the transition, the SEC has published guidance, instructional videos, and written materials, and continues to host webinars and technical sessions.
As a cornerstone of US digital financial reporting, and the entire US financial system, EDGAR plays a vital role in ensuring transparency and accessibility for US corporate disclosures. The move to EDGAR Next reflects a broader shift toward modernised, secure, and user-friendly reporting systems.
For filers, the message is simple: don’t wait. A last-minute scramble in December 2025 will help no one. Filers should take advantage of the range of available resources now to ensure a smooth transition. And for those wondering what’s changing, we covered the first wave of EDGAR Next updates last month—catch up here.
