EFRAG invites feedback on cutting ESRS red tape

EFRAG invites feedback on cutting ESRS red tape.

EFRAG wants to hear from you. On 8 April, the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group launched a public call for input on simplifying the first set of European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).

This follows a formal request from the European Commission, asking for technical advice by 31 October 2025 to support a revised delegated act.

The goal? Cut complexity, streamline disclosures, and ensure that sustainability reporting works in practice—not just on paper. EFRAG is collecting input via an online questionnaire, targeting early ESRS preparers, auditors, and users. Top of the agenda: which mandatory datapoints are least useful, how to fix unclear provisions, and how to keep the focus on what’s truly material.

This isn’t just a technical clean-up—it’s an opportunity to shape how sustainability reporting evolves in Europe. And EFRAG isn’t working in isolation. This consultation complements workshops and interviews designed to capture real-world experience from the first wave of reporters.

The direction is clear: simplify where it makes sense, but don’t compromise quality. It’s a balancing act—and one that we will be watching closely.

Submissions close on 6 May. Have your say here.
