AI meets XBRL in FASB webinar on structured data and emerging tech

Posted on April 11, 2025 by Editor

This week’s SEC and FASB webinar brought together leaders from across the structured reporting ecosystem, with a standout session on AI moderated by XBRL International CEO John Turner.

In conversation with Joe Atkinson, PwC’s Global Chief AI Officer, and Dr Daniel Vile from the SEC’s Office of Data Science, John led a deep dive into how artificial intelligence is already reshaping financial reporting—and what comes next.

The discussion touched on everything from generative AI’s potential to assist with tagging and analysis, to the critical importance of structured data in training reliable models. One big takeaway: well-tagged, machine-readable data isn’t going away. In fact, it’s becoming even more essential as AI scales up.

The webinar also featured updates from the SEC on taxonomy changes, data quality trends, and new guidance around implementation, including the 2025 taxonomy release. It wrapped up with FASB’s technical updates, including the latest on the meta model and new tools for preparers.
