Data for All – Increasing the availability of Data in the EU
The European Commission is ramping up its efforts to create measures for increasing the availability of data in the EU, building on previous initiatives to boost the free flow of non-personal data in the Digital Single Market. The Commission’s VP, Andrus Ansip highlighted their perspective noting “without data, we will not make the most of artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and other technological advances”. Realisations in data sharing will have tangible knock-on benefits for many sectors across the economy, including healthcare, transport, and – of course – business. The European Commission will now be revitalising its efforts to ensure better access to and reusability of public sector data and private sector data sharing in business-to-business and business-to-governments contexts, among other commitments.
