ESMA announces enforcement priorities
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has released its annual Public Statement on European Common Enforcement Priorities. This sets out priority issues that ESMA, together with national enforcers, will pay particular attention to in assessing listed companies’ annual reports for 2021. This year, focus is on impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, climate-related disclosures, and expected credit losses. ESMA also reminds issuers that from the 2021 financial year all annual financial reports should be prepared using the European Single Electronic Format (ESEF), urging preparers to consult relevant guidance and highlighting common errors, such as incorrect signs.
