IFAC releases vision for assurance of sustainability reporting
The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) has published its vision for high-quality assurance of sustainability information. It builds on its report and engagement campaign on the State of Play in Sustainability Assurance, and emphasises that “in order to be trusted, sustainability disclosure must be subject to high-quality, independent, external assurance.”
As IFAC observes, sustainability-related disclosures are taking their place alongside financial statements in the corporate reporting ecosystem, for example with the establishment of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), and a system is needed that delivers consistent, comparable, and reliable information. “This vision addresses the importance of global standards, regulation that supports decision-useful disclosure, and the value of an interconnected approach to sustainability and financial information reporting and assurance.”
