Innovative Ideas from the World Economic Forum
Last week saw the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions, this year held in Tianjin, China.
A host of debates and presentations are available to view and read from the global summit. Talks tackled the global collaboration and standards necessary to ensure the interoperability of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as AI, blockchain and the Internet of things. With participants from entrepreneurs, to major multinationals, government, academia and civil society discussing innovation, science and technology, the summit addressed major global challenges from the perspective of the future of business and society.
Of particular interest was a talk looking at the role technological innovation has to play in the Belt and Road Initiative. The Belt and Road initiative aims to strengthen connectivity among member countries and promote inclusive growth – although often viewed as merely a massive infrastructure project, technology can play a part in the initiative. By leveraging innovation in the financing models of Belt and Road projects, and harnessing e-commerce and the digital economy, there is the potential to accelerate the initiative and ensure multilateral cooperation and sustainable development.
