New ESEF Reporting Manual

Posted on July 14, 2024 by Editor

Yesterday the European Securities Markets Authority (ESMA) published the 2024 edition of its ESEF reporting manual. The changes are relatively minor (not unexpected this year) but include guidance on anchoring and on dealing with empty or “dash” facts.

Software vendors should take particular note that:

  1. ESMA will now require the use of the XBRL Report Packages specification 1.0. (Ed – Good news!)
  2. there is an important minor amendments on p30 of the document that sets out (with redline) additional requirements in relation to the XHTML markup of block tagged text.
  3. ESMA now recommends that software vendors fully utilise the XBRL Calculations 1.1 specification in report preparation, following its adoption by the IFRS taxonomy.

Please note also that there is an amendment being made to the list of “Mandatory elements” for use in tagging to be carried out in 2025. The amendments adds three taxonomy elements/labels related to dividends that were previously omitted from the list of required mark-ups when the list was updated in May.

See the ESMA release and the updated manual here.
