New SEC Pilot to Promote XBRL Data Use

Posted on January 8, 2015 by Dave Nitchman

In another sign of the SEC’s commitment to the value of structured data, the agency has launched a pilot program to provide information from XBRL filings in combined data sets on the SEC’s website for use by investors and academics. The information is presented “as filed” and optimized for use in analysis and comparison. The data sets also contain additional fields including a company’s Standard Industrial Classification. The data sets will be expanded in 2015 to include data in footnotes to the financial statements. We welcome this push by the SEC to make XBRL data more accessible and user friendly and look forward to seeing how the community puts it to use.  Click here for data sets covering 2009-2014.
