Open API for Reporting a Key Part of Our Future
The conference also saw the initial release of an experimental Open API for Reporting that promises to greatly simplify analysis, making information more accessible and usable. Campbell Pryde, CEO of XBRL US, demonstrated the potential of a standard API that will give people access to data and definitions in an interoperable manner. The API offers a simple way of requesting information from a repository of XBRL data, taking the data that is already there and making it available for the average user – an exciting development and the beginnings of a vital community effort. In the not too distant future we imagine a number of competing but interoperable data platforms that can serve up information to similarly interoperable applications. It’s part of the modernisation of XBRL – stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.
