Six big ideas from the integrated reporting and thinking conference

Posted on November 17, 2024 by Editor

The IFRS Foundation’s 2024 Integrated Reporting and Thinking Conference, held recently in Milan, highlighted how integrated reporting is reshaping corporate transparency and governance, especially as companies implement new sustainability standards. With experts from 15 countries, discussions centred on the value of integrated reporting and how it aligns with the International Sustainability Standards Board’s (ISSB) IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 standards, designed to improve sustainability disclosures.

One of the main takeaways was that the Integrated Reporting Framework provides a strong foundation for companies adopting IFRS S1 and IFRS S2, supporting the creation of comprehensive reports that meet the demand for consistency and comparability in sustainability disclosures. Integrated thinking, another central theme, helps companies break down internal silos and treat reporting as a genuine tool for strategic insight—not just a compliance exercise. This holistic approach not only improves the quality of sustainability information but also enhances investor engagement by linking strategy, governance, and risk management.

Speakers also emphasised the Integrated Reporting Framework’s lasting influence, with both the ISSB and IASB drawing on its principles to guide companies towards more cohesive reporting. For preparers and investors alike, this approach fosters a clearer understanding of a company’s value over time. The event underscored the vibrant, active community around integrated reporting and invited further participation as the practice evolves.
